Domain FAQ

What is an MX record?
MX i.e. Mail Exchanger record specifies to which domain should emails be delivered. The record must allocate a domain name, which in return points to an IP address. MX Records of each domain tell the servers on the Internet where to deliver the mails for that domain. When someone sends a mail, the mail server (SMTP) checks the domains MX Record to know where to actually send the mail. A domain can have multiple MX record.

What is a domain transfer?
A domain transfer is a simple process in which a domain is moved from one domain registrar to another registrar. And domain transfer is available in the following three types:

  • From one hosting provider (ISP) to another
  • From one domain registrar to another
  • From one domain owner to another

What is an auth code?
Auth Code i.e.  Authorization code is a string of randomly generated letters and numbers used to prevent domain hijackers from transferring any domain without their owner's permission. Authorization codes must always be retrieved from the present domain registrar. Auth codes are sometimes referred to as EPP codes or authinfo codes also. Domains with .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz and .us, require authorization codes for domain transfers.

What is renewing a domain?
Renewing a domain means adding 1 to 5 years of lifetime to a domain before the expiration date.

I have already renewed my domain with my current registrar but now I want to transfer the domain to MTPL?
If you renew a domain within the automatic renewal period of 45 days after renewal or expiration and then transfer that domain to another registrar during this same period (up to 45 days after renewing your registration), the period of 1 year is retracted by the registry and only the year(s) of the transfer is applied. The losing registrar should advise the registrant of this fact. Therefore, in order to prevent this retraction, we recommend that you initiate registrar transfers before the automatic renewal period occurs at the time of expiration, or at least 45 days after you renew your domain registration.

What is the redemption grace period?
The Redemption Grace Period (RGP) is a period of time once the domain is deleted in which it may be possible to recover or restore it. Only those domains which are deleted after the initial five days of registration could be restored.

What is Whois?
WHOIS is a universal searchable database that holds the key information about each domain name that has been registered and may be active:

  • Owner of a domain name
  • Date of registration and Expiration
  • Name-servers
  • Associated IP addresses
